Mykonos in May

I have the chance to go to Mykonos in May. Mykonnos Town seems to be the place to stay. Any recommendations from ABers would be greatly appreciated. I should love to stay in a real Greek whitewashed taverna overlooking a harbour or beach? Am I going to be disappointed?!

Hoping to find a traditional Taverna in Mykonos is like hoping to find a traditional market stall in Covent Garden.
Mykonos is very touristy; you may find what you're looking for but it will be at a price. A better bet would be a smaller island - one without an airport, for instance. If you're looking for 'sugar-cube' architecture, the Cyclades islands (the ones around Mykonos) are the best, however; different regions have different styles. rojash may be able to give more detailed information.
Agreed.

if there is an incentive eg free flight to Mykonos, then check ferry links to other islands without airports (and therefore no or minimal package trade) and search for accommodation on line.
