Getting there

going on holiday at 17

my boyfriend and i, who have been together for 3 years really wanted to go on holiday this year on our own. to be fair, going with parents is nice, but dull.
we had a look on the thompson website, found a place we liked and when i read the terms and conditions, it said that we could not go on a package holiday unitl we are 18.
Is there any way around this?
would be grateful of replies soon.
many thanks

A DIY holiday might do it - but be careful as some hotels won't accept direct bookings from under 18s either. You could find you get there and they won't let you stay.

Some operators might accept a guarantee from your parents.

The reason is legal - you cannot enter into a contract that will be enforced by the courts until you are 18, unless it's for essentials. A holiday doesn't come into this category.

First Choice let my 17 yr old daughter go last summer to Minorca with 3 friends (1 17 and 2 16) though it took some persuading and all parents had to give a letter of permission before they would book them. The local agent was really helpful and checked all the small print before arguing their case with the booking folk. A lot of firms need an 18 yr old to be in charge. Good luck with your hunting.
