Suggestions invited

As part of the final touches to a trip plan, I am stuck on deciding where to spend perhaps 2-3 nights at the start within reasonable reach of Santiago Chile. San Fernando to the south, seems about the furthest as a possible base (within reach of Santa Cruz but I have seen very little by way of information about the northern side up to 150plus km. We will spend a night in Valparaiso at the end. Any suggestions as to where to go and why would be welcome - it looks as if accommodation is readily available in most places.

Decided: Going to Los Andes. Why, just because we will pass through the southern area on the return leg and it is a little closer to Santiago and a bit cheaper too (of what we found).
