Cheap New York hotels

Hi all

Does anyone know of a good all round cheap New York hotel? I'm travelling in April and I'm dead against hostel accommodation as the idea of sharing a bathroom does not appeal. It doesn't have to be 5 star (which would be out of my price range) but I would like it to be central...Midtown or similar. I guess I could afford up to £60/70 per night as there'll be 2 of us and we can share the cost.

Cheers

We stayed in the Wolcott:
http://www.wolcott.com

Which was easy walking distance from the centre of Manhattan and was clean and comfortable but was nothing special (better than a hostel though)!
Try booking it through expedia (try combined with flights and without) for the cheapest deal, it should work out cheaper than quoted on their site. A continental breakfast is included (basically muffins and coffee)

I can't give you an exact figure of how much we paid but we stayed in it for 6 nights and paid under £500 for it plus our flights from UK

Cheers everyone! I'll have a butchers, just as a pointer to anyone else who wants to go to New York, the pensylvannia hotel isn't really a cheap hotel, Cheap enough for some I guess but as I'm on a budget, it's out of my league. Then again, prices may have gone up for the time of year I requested.

Try Hotel 414. It's a boutique hotel just off Broadway, and we loved it. The roomsa re a decent size and have all the creature comforts - plus a free brekfast in the morning. Very reasonably priced, I'd definitely go back there again.
