This is a good place to start:

Hint: Click on any 'Map' link. Deselect 'Things to Do' (to remove some of the clutter) and then zoom in on the map. You'll then be able to see the locations of all the restaurants in central Shanklin (which can be identified individually by clicking on their light blue symbol). You can then see the TripAdvisor ratings immediately or click through to read detailed reviews.
I would check this "5 mins walk". If they are in the centre of Shanklin they will find it quite a climb from Esplanade back to base. The lift was not working when I was there a couple of weeks ago. There are plenty of eating places both on the Esplanade and in the centre but some are quite pricey.

thanks Buenchico..and Jonathan -Joe.. thats very helpful : )
The waterfront on the esplanade is quite nice, right by the sea. There is a bus up and down the hill. The crab inn at the old village not too bad.
Shanklin beach lift not working.
The "Shanklin Steamer" between town centre and Esplanade runs only up to 5:30 pm and does not begin operation until 26 June. The only bus at present is the "Coaster" with one morning and one evening journey to the Espalande at cost of £ 10 fare.
