As ever I have completed this WITH ONE EXCEPTION! The clue is "In Indian cookery, the aubergine". At first I thought the answer was "baingan" but I cannot make this fit into the grid. In the space I have left it would be: bi*r*t*. But I cannot find any word that fits that. Can someone help me please? steven

Stevenj ... The answer should be brinjal but that would mean that you've got a few wrong.
The problem is that I can't see any other way to fit the grid together. I have fitted every word but one! I am sure that the answers that fit across the clue now are correct, though they could, of course be in the wrong place" But is there really no other Indian word (given how many languages there are there!) that fit? The thought of unscrambling everything and starting again fills me with horror. And She Who Must Be Obeyed thinks that I have spent more than enough time on it so far...
Doh! On careful examination, I HAD misplaced this clue. It is, as you say, brinjal and the place where I was trying to fit an Indian aubergine in is really throbbing efect the answer to which, as you will see, fits OK. So that's it completed. Thanks for you patience!
