Venice and gondolas

I believe it is possible to board a large gondola in Venice to cross to a hotel rather than paying a huge amount in a private hire. Any info?

You need a vaporetto, rather than a gondola.

Thank you emeritus.
Traghetto - (traghetti is plural). I have a pop up map of Venice and the traghetti are marked on.
