I have a number of emails that I sent and saved in a folder for future use, I am running
Win. XP and use googlemail for my emails, recently I needed to resend an ealier email
that had been saved in the mentioned folder but when I went to view it to check it before sending it a message appeared saying "gmail needs cookies to be enabled on your browser before this file can be opened" so just how do I do that?

That depends on which browser you are using. Assuming Internet Explorer 8:
Click Tools/Internet Options
Go to the Privacy tab
Check that it is set to Medium or Low. If not, set it to Medium or Low using the vertical slider.
It may be set to Custom, in which case, click the Advanced button, Check Accept under First-party Cookies. Personally, I also check Third-party, and Always allow session cookies.
