Scam Telephone Calls?

I live in France where most countries dial 0033 to contact someone in France. Recently I have been receiving calls starting with 0032 and when I return the call an American recordrd message says that the number does not exist and to check the number.

Has anyone in the UK experience something similar and is it, as I suspect, a scam of some sort?

NEVER return these calls. You could be dialling a £1.50 a minute premium phone line for all you know.

If you google the number you might find out where it is coming from.

0032 is the dialling code for Belgium.

Thanks for your inputs. Grasscarp you are right 0032 is the dialing code for Belgium and it's what I would have to dial to call someone in that country. The call is reaching me in France so I'm receiving a call starting with 0032. A call coming into France from Belgium would start with 0033 not 0032.

Fortunately I have all the numbers I expect logged on my 'phone so I know who the caller is. Any unrecognised number I leave as they are usually cold calls and don't leave a number. This call, however, has the number 003228886558 which, as I said , doesn't exist. I agree with you, Squarebear, I think it must be a scam.

I put that number into google and all I could find was some people in France asking if anyone knew who it was

I think you are confused.......A call coming into France from Belgium would display their 0032 number even though they had dialled 0033 to reach you...
