NO!
simple answer.
Tv is filmed in stereo(2 speakers) when you play it through a surround sound kit it is not 'real' surround at all. (i actually think it sounds worse!)
A dvd or blu ray has a proper surround sound track and will be awesome!(i love surround sound!!!!)
New sky boxes have a optical slot(an optical cable is used to transmit all the different surround signals) for the sound so maybe now sky can play films in proper surround sound not too sure.
But your ordinary soaps and i guess all British telly will not be in surround and is pointless wasting your money on it.

Thank you thats what I wanted to know . I do have sky hd box so will go for one with the dvd and I forgot I do play cds .
Im pretty sure sky movies in HD will have a surround sound track so should be quite impressive in surround sound but what you want is a proper dvd/blu ray and a few good action films and you'll see what i mean!
