MS excel 2007

I currently use ms excel 2003. I have been told that if I install ms excel 2007 the existing spreadsheets I have in 2003 will not work. Is this true? or am I being told porkies!!

With Office 2007, MS implemented a new set of file types. 2003 documents should be OK in 2007, but you will need to download the (free) MS converter to open 2007 documents in 2003.

Do you realy think Microsoft would really bring out a version of Excel that would not work with spreadsheets created older versions of Excel?

actually giggles321 ... you are not wrong (completely)

2003 uses .xls for all worksheets and 2007 will open them

However
2007 uses two formats xlsx for "ordinary" worksheets
and .xlsm.... which is specifically used for sheets which use VB macros or custom formulae.

if you open a 2003 file infested with macros and then save the sheet as xlsx - it won't work!!
you must use xlsm

it took me two days to find that one when I discovered that none of my sheets would work.
