keyboard and mouse

I have a packard bell pc. it came with a packard bell wireless keyboard and mouse. The mouse is driving me mad now because when I left click it seems to be clicking something else too (feels like a double click all at once) and I get a circle appear on the screen instead of a cursor. the circle contains a black arrowhead pointing up and one pointing down and between them a black dot. Unless I have my index finger way to the left of the left click button I can't simply left click. Any ideas how to stop this happening?

Sounds like a dodgy mouse. That cursor should appear when you press down the scroll wheel.

Thanks squarebear. tried the scroll wheel and I got the same circle. New mouse needed.
