New Mobile Phone

If I put my SIM card into a new mobile phone, that has been supplied by 3 mobile, will my contacts and files etc automatically transfer also?
If not, how can I do this quickly?

It depends whether your contacts are stored on your sim card or on the phone itself.

Must be on the phone, coz when I put the sim card into the new phone, there was none of my stuff there.
It is going to be quite laborious transferring it all. I put the sim card back into my old phone for now, until I get info on how to solve the problem.
New phone is Sony Ericsson K800i.

Most (if not all) phones nowadays have a function that allows you to copy all the contacts to the sim from the phone or vice versa, allowing you to transport them with the sim

What make and model of phone is your old one?

chazza is correct almost all phone do offer this feature now, however beware that the sim only stores name and one phone number per entry, so any advanced contact details (i.e. multiple phone numbers per entry, address, email address, birthday details etc etc) that you may have in your current phone will be lost.

if your new phone is same make as old one then you may be able to back phone book up onto a computer and then restore it to new phone, nokia pc suite and sony erricson pc suite both will do this for sure, not sure on other brands.

old phone is also a Sony Ericcson but can't see a model number on it.
Thank you anyway for advice, I think I may have enough to go on, and get a computer literate friend to do the transfer.
Cheers.
