downloading msn messenger

Haven't got broadband at home - only pay-as-u-go and I've set up a hotmail account but want to do msn messenger as it's quicker. When I go to download it, it comes up that time taking approx 4 hours!!! Is this right? or if i leave it running will it actually download faster?
