How to start my wirless connection

Hi,

I have bought a laptop off a friend and a wireless box has come with it, I have been told I need to contact my internet provider to get them to do something so I can then use it, I have contacted them but got put through to a chap that couldn't speak a word of English, I couldn't understand a word he was saying either, any advice please as I cannot go through over an hour on the phone to where ever and not get anything sorted !

Firstly, who is your ISP and is your router the right sort?

You should not need to contact your ISP to set up a wireless network.

Is the router simply a router, or a combined modem/router? What make/model is it?

Are you running Windows XP? Is the laptop wifi enabled?
