I don't know about easily but I'd hope the more decent graphics packages will be able to interpolate from nearby pixels to fill in the text colour. I'd check out GIMP first as I know it has a good rep, but can't say which packages actually have that tool.
My son runs this company , he can do what you need

But it is not automatic you have to remove the text pixel by pixel and replace it with pixels copied from other parts of the photo. I think he charges £80 an hour!
Have a look at photoshop FB. The way to do it depends on where the text is of course.

If you found the photo on the internet it may be possible that there is another copy that hasn't had text inserted.
Assume copyright on all images on the internet.

A lot of people thing that Google Images is a repositry of images that they can freely use.

Its not - its just a search result.

I am sure they do Tuvok, and I do all the time.

But how do you add text?
add text with Paint? But taking it away - what exactly do you expect to find underneath it?

It's one of my own pictures that I added text to, but foolishly forgot to save the original. I now want to remove the text for a project.
Thanks for all the answers folks.

You'll have to paint the tex out using the clone tool.

If you don't have Photoshop this is an online alternative

what's behind the text? If it's just, say, a blue wall, you can easily deal with that with the tools on Photoshop or similar programmes. But if it's a photograph with (for instance) lots of people or lots of detail in it, you won't be able to recreate them out of nowhere. Your best bet might be just to crop the text out and take it from there.
