Samsung Wave Message Problem

Hi
Can anyone help I have recently obtained a SAMSUNG WAVE GT-S8500 mobile phone and am having trouble receiving messages which include photos.
I am sure it is due to something not being enabled but despite being in possession of a complete printed User Manual I have been unable to locate the problem!!
As an 81 year old I find the manual very hard to understand, but hope someone can help me.
