Have any of you used Timpsons for this service?

Just wondering what the success rate, service and costs were?

I replaced one myself, it's a long, patience trying issue, I bought the screen off eBay, there are members on that site that will replace, have you no-one local?
Eccles how does it affect your warranty?
I would be careful of letting any Tom, Dick or Harry mess around with it!!
timpsons christ you'll need a mortgage with their prices!

Islay I bought from a US PX (NAAFI equivalent) going down the warranty route is way to complicated, even though it is a valid source.

TWR, I don't want to go down the DIY route or use a local IT Dr, hence wondering about Timpsons who's business ethic is admirable.
Question Author
Sorry, I misunderstood you Islay. I'm not bothered about the warranty, if it gets screwed then so be it.

I have reasonably high level of faith in Timpsons as I admire the founder. Although Bernie has wrong footed me so i might bight the bullet and give in to the Apple Store :-(
Eccles, I would not go the Apple way as they are very expensive, my Daughter sent one back there a good while ago & it costs as much as a new one, that's in my opinion.
To add, if it's Warranted through an Independent repairer you have not lost anything.
Question Author
Sure an independent would only offer a warranty on their repair which will almost certainly counsel out the Apple one?

I think I'll just bite the bullet and resort to the Apple Store, depending on the price I might just go for an upgrade.

No doubt friend or family member will appreciate my crook one, and come to think of it my retired one!

Feel free to shoot me me for my appalling typo all!

Just shoot me! I am shocked at my poor review skills after spell check does it's worst!!!!!
I don't do that Eccles, although I do have my faults.
Question Author
If it is over 50% of a replacement I'll go for a new model and cast my older models far and wide into the family to see who is interested.

Still struggling to wonder why the spell checker wanted to know if my iPad wanted to recline in a comfy sit and go through the trauma of its short life ;-)
If you decided to go for an up grade, put yours on ebay stating the fault, you will get a decent price for it.
...and when you have your new or repaired device, it may be a good idea to fit a screen protection film to help prevent future damage.
If you go to the Apple Store with it and decide to upgrade they may offer to buy the old one from you. Just another idea.
Question Author
Interesting thought about Apple taking trade ins to offset costs!

I don't do EBay so that isn't an option. If I end up giving my knackered outdated iPads to family or friends I want be too bothered.

Gingebee, to my shame, I have to admit that there are several rugged iPad cases in the house :-(
I'm assuming its a cracked screen?

I had to replace the actual screen (not the glass) on my iPad 1.

Bought the screen from ebay and with the help of a youtube video my brother fitted it.

Try one of the mobile phone accessories shops - our local ones all offer ipad repairs.
