hello
as u can see i am connected to the iternet
my prob is when i pick up my landline phone
it says check phone line
checked the line from phone to socket
pick up phone
it says check phone line
used a different cable from phone to socket
still got check phone line
any ideas would be nice

What is the 'it' that's saying "Check phone line"? Is it a message heard over your phone or a message appearing on the screen of your computer (or, indeed, something else)? It's certainly something I've never heard of before!

But you still haven't told me what 'it' is!

Are you hearing a message on your phone when you pick it up or does picking up your phone result in a message on your computer screen?
I'm assuming you are using a broadband connection, not dial-up.
Your landline should have a low-pass filter, a tiny box that plugs into the line.
That allows the low-frequency voice signal to go to the phone & removes the high-freq. digital signal that goes to the modem/router.

As AZardoz suggests, you might need to replace your ADSL filter. They're not expensive:

PS: I was assuming above that you're seeing the message on the screen of your computer, not on a digital screen on your phone (although I've never heard of such a message appearing on a computer screen).

If the message is actually on a screen on your phone (and, presumably, you're not getting a dial tone) then the first thing to do is to unplug your ADSL filter and try the phone plugged directly into the phone socket. (If the problem disappears, get a new ADSL filter).

If the problem persists, and there's a horizontal line on the plate for your phone socket, unscrew the bottom part and try using the internal test socket:

If the problem still persists, borrow another phone from someone to see if that works. If it does then, obviously, there's a fault with your own phone. If it doesn't then it's time to contact BT (or whoever provides your phone service) to get the line fault fixed.

Well, the UK system seems to be more sophisticated than NA.
That ADSL filter appears to be fool-proof, ... but you know the old adage ...
Any phone socket that has something plugged in needs a filter
