I cannot get online using my laptop, although as you can see, using the iPad, internet is fine, so the fault is laptop based father than internet based. Earlier today, everything was fine, but now it's not working. I have used Windows Network Diagnostics to troubleshoot, with this result "Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration". I do have a service contract with PC World, but when I discovered no internet, their lines were closed until the morning. Any advice please?

Turn off the laptop, and power down the router.

Count slowly to ten & then turn on the router - once it is showing as connected to the internet (and your iPad is working) then turn on the laptop.

That should clear any conflicts

Tried that, but unfortunately, end result is the same - "doesn't have a valid IP configuration".
Buenchico will know...

TBH that's what I thought!
I wasn't joking, Mr-H. He gives the most brilliant answers on AB on all sorts of topics, but particularly on computer stuff, and nearly always with useful links. He deserves a medal!

..... and he has helped me out a number of times previously. Buenchico for Prime Minister!!
I had the same problem a few months back. After 24 hours it cleared itself. No idea what caused it or how it was rectified.

Ok, so perhaps I'll go to bed now, and see what happens overnight.
I would be very interested to see if Chico, or anyone else, can come up with an explanation for this phenomenon.
Buenchico does indeed have a possible solution, which is to reset the TCP/IP stack. However it seems that Hc4361 has beaten me to it ;-)

Just spoken to Knowhow (PCWorld's help line). They got me to 'restart', rather than switching off and on. This worked straight away, and immediately I was back on line. For info. the guy I spoke to said that this does appear to be getting more frequent with Windows10 users. Thanks for the help and advice, but it seems to have been resolved.
Glad it's sorted

Yeah, thanks for the advice. TBH I looked at your possible solution, but I think I might have needed to call family for assistance in setting to work! Thanks again.
