Dragging An Icon To The Desktop

I have a new Windows 10 desk top, and I am having rouble dragging icons to make a shortcut on my screen.

I have tried left clicking, right clicking, copy-and-pasting, and nothing seems to work - am I doing something wrong?

Is There A Charity Which Can Rehab. Laptops?

Pin to start and drag and drop from there

Thank you - how do I 'Pin to Start?

(You would be right in thinking that I am a bit of a numpty where computers are concerned!)

Right click on item and select from the drop down menu
