Have got fed up with BT price hike so thinking about changing to Plusnet. Will this mean having to change BT internet address as well?

If you meanyour email address, yes you'll have to change to one you select with your new internet provider. BT won't keep your existing email address active if you're not paying them.
...yes, the reason many people stay with a mediocre provider....
If you want to keep your email address with BT you can...for £5 a month....

Plusnet is an excellent choice.....x

Thanks for answers and also for the recommendation gness. It's OH who has the BT email and it's such a pain telling everyone of the new one (and also remembering a new one for him!)so may be worth paying the extra though that partly cancels out the saving in the first place!
I kept my BT email for the same reason, Los......too much faffing.

It may or may not be costing me more overall but the service I'm getting from Plusnet is so much better than from BT it's worth it......
Dealing with BT costs more than a fiver a month in Valium and Vodka.....☺
For my emails I use a Hotmail account. Learnt my lesson when I was with Tiscali, now Talk Talk. What a shower, OK when things run smoothly, but when something goes wrong, you're on your own!
Using an email address through Hotmail means you don't get problems when changing providers, and there's no charge involved.

Just to clarify, when I talked about 'no charge involved', I was talking solely about setting up a Hotmail account.
I don't understand, Howard. Are you saying Los HAS to change her email address if she leaves BT?
PLEASE ... read what gness has said.

If you leave BT - *** YOU CAN KEEP YOUR BT EMAIL ADDRESS ***

It will cost you £5 per month after the first 90 days - so it's up to you to decide whether this worth it or not. If not then you should move to a third party supplier (gmail, hotmail, gmx) not to a Plusnet address - or you will have the same problem again in the future.

I agree - Plusnet is a good provider for broadband/phone - especially for anyone less than 100% with techie stuff - they have UK call centres and are very helpful.
PlusNet is, of course, just BT under a different name anyway.

As has been written many times here on AB though, you simply shouldn't be using an email address provided by any ISP. It's one of the ways that they try to tie you to their services. Instead, use an independent provider.

I recommend GMX:
https://www.gmx.co.uk/
If Losgigs changes her ISP to PlusNet, I suggest immediately setting up a new email account at GMX and then using the 'mail collector' facility to get mail from her old BT address (which will remain active for 90 days without payment) automatically forwarded to the new GMX one. That way, Losgigs won't lose any mail and she'll have three months to ensure that people know her new email address.
BT under a different name, Chris.....but brilliant to deal with......the difference in customer service is unbelievable......x
....owned by BT, but run as a separate entity...and it shows....
Oh.....if you should decide to use Plusnet, Los.......two things....

If you know a Plusnet customer who can recommend you they'll get a reward.....forget what though....

If you leave BT don't put too much trust in their 90 days til cut off.....they cut me off much earlier than that......They did send me a compensation cheque but the nuisance was.....a nuisance.....☺
Doesn't it just, Ginge....I couldn't believe the difference when I changed to Plusnet.....x

Thanks all. It's not my email, it's Mr Losgigs, and he's just remembered that he has a hotmail address already, so will use that instead. Don't really want to give BT any more money for the bad service they provide! :)
