A scan of my laptop advised me that it had detected the following -

High

What exactly is that and should my Antivirus have prevented it ?

It's adware. Do you have malwarebytes or similar installed as well as antivirus?

I would advise not to open these alerts Bazile, use your own if you have one, there is every chance of a virus.
