If I find instructions on youtube for example is this something I could tackle myself? Will I need tiny screwdrivers? Am I likely to muck the whole thing up?It's a Dell Inspiron 1545

I never fiddle with hardware, no matter how simple the instructions. I just don't trust myself.

This is what's worrying me
If you're talking about the main battery then you should need no tools whatsoever as they are designed to just 'click' out, if it's the BIOS battery then that's a very different kettle of fish!

The BIOS battery is a coin cell, hidden within the laptop and is used to supply power to keep the date/time correct etc when the unit is powered off. They usually last the life of the computer or thereabouts.
If it's the cmos battery I believe it is an easy one to replace just two screws holding a base plate and the battery is accessible, power supply and battery removed first

It's the normal power battery. I'm giggling a bit as I've just done a search and you just slide it out from the back and slide the new one in. I expected to be removing the keyboard and gawd knows what else. I didn't even know it was that thing on the back.
Phew, Prudie breathes a sigh of relief!

I'm giggling more because looking at the back of my laptop battery area it's covered in a 3cm diameter blob of a well squashed malteser, Probably been there for months.
