Can someone advise me on how to clean out all the garbage that my computer will have collected during my busy time on the web?

I want to know how to 'clear my cache', and get rid of broken files, links, and any and all similar nonsense.

Thanks.

Andy, you know that people will want to know which browser you are using and which operating system.........they always do....:-)
Ccleaner the free version from here
https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
Avoid the optional extras
First job, empty your recycle bin, then giving us operating system and browser choice is a big help. Your cachet clean up can be found with your browser history programme and you can choose clear cachet rather than delete browser history.

I am thinking that I could be too late to advise you to stay away from ccleaner. If I am, perhaps you will kindly let me know the progress you have made in matters.

I have been using CCleaner for a number of years without any problems, what should we be looking for Hans?

I am still operating on Windows XP and I usually use Disk Defragmenter and Disk Clean-Up.

Select Programmes, Accessories, System Tools, then Disk Defragmenter and Disk Clean-Up.
I even forget to get to programmes - any help thanks - I am on Windows 7 or XP - not sure of that even.
G'afternoon AOG.....It only requires a search of the internet to establish that lots of folk have ruined their computers by using ccleaner because of the 'Registry' element which,if not carefully used, can render a computer completely beyond recovery. It is questionable as to whether 'Registry Cleaners' are nothing more than money makers for the firms that develop them.

Incidentally, it is my opinion that Windows XP was one of the best Operating Systems that was produced by Microsoft and I understand that a lot of Commercial Organisations are still using it.

You have implied that you use 'Defragmenter' and 'Disc Clean-Up'. My response is that 'Disc Clean-up' does help to a certain extent but Defragmentation is a complete waste of time.

Hi jennyjoan.....If you want to establish what programmes are in your machine, click the start button on the bottom left and in the menu which comes-up will be 'programmes' which you can then click open for a full list.

To establish what Windows Operating System you have. Click the start button then click 'run' and type into the box 'winver'.

Hans.
^^^ Type the word winver ,without the inverted commas.
