Can anyone tell me an easy way of transferring some music files (MP3s) from my computer (Widows XP) to my mobile phone
(Sony Xperia L)?

I have connected my phone to the computer via USB cable, but it tells me to restart my computer and then Sony's PC companion kicks in and it takes ages for it to recognise it, so much so that I give up.

Bluetooth ?

Not that I've ever tried but that seems plausible if your PC had bluetooth functionality. Perhaps Companion won't kick in then.

As a matter of interest, whilst Companion is messing about, is the phone not seen in Explorer anyway ?
(Pre or post restart)

sorry - other way round :)
Connect your phone to your pc via usb and close any dialogue boxes that pop up.

Hopefully when you open File Explorer and click 'this pc' the phone will show up and you can drag and drop as normal

Thank you for all of your answers.

I do not seem to have 'File Explorer' only 'My Computer' where such things as 'Hard Disc drives', 'CD and DVD drives' and 'Removable Disks' are shown. No additional drives are shown when i plug in my phone via the USB cable.

Regarding Blue Tooth, I can only transfer files from my phone to my computer that way and that is only by sending them one at a time, for some strange reason if I want to send files from my computer to my phone, the computer doesn't recognise my phone.
Just realised you are using XP. It's called Windows Explorer.
does the phone not show in removable drives

Thanks once again to you all.

I am rather interested from this Windows Explorer method, I have Accessories and found Windows Explorer and when I click on it all my document files come up, what do I do then?

Sorry but the technicalities are not my strong subject.
Can you see your phone in Windows Explorer?
You can access the device manager by right clicking on "My computer" or "Computer" depending on Win OS version. Aog read through my link from yesterday @ 21:58 it also gives a phone set up guide.
