Kindle App Downloads Undownloading

I got a new tablet/laptop and downloaded the kindle app. i was able to download a majority of my books. but after i had used the app a few times i turned it on and all of my books that had been downloaded were no longer downloaded. i have had to re download books. this time i haven't downloaded many as the 'disappearance' of books has happened twice. it's absolutely annoying as i had around a thousand books. does anyone have any ideas please?
