Sky Plus Box- As A Recorder

With Sky now over £65 per month, thinking of cancelling our subscription.
Question is will the Sky box still work as a 'sort of video recorder' and will the ability to freeze TV programmes still work?

If not what is a viable cheaper alternative please?

Just a thought......f you would like to stay with sky phone them up and say it is getting too expensive for you. Say you are thinking of cancelling...you will be put through to their cancellation dept......sky refer to it as retentions dept......they have always come up with a deal for me each time my contract is up for renewal and I always say that I am sure they can find a better deal otherwise I will cancel.....never failed yet!

Thanks - just called at 7.53p to downgrade package (and hopefully get an offer) and get a message that the Dept closes at 8p. Go figure!

Anyway as it is not possible to currently see the package breakdown on line - does anyone know what the Box Set pack costs please? TIA

Update: Spoke with them today: The Sports pack is £27.50 and the Box Sets pack is £38 - however Box Sets is a misleading name as this basically means all the TV channels which includes the Box Sets.
Result of call is they knocked £7.50 off the Sports pack price for 6 months.
