That's an interesting trick H. There are a few ways you can remove the icon. When you start tomorrow try this first: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen layout. (Reset is right at the bottom of the General menu). Come back if it doesn't help

www.adblock.co.uk or www.adbloc.co.uk bring up the site up - there will be 3 columns as in free - premium - etc.

Contantly make sure you hit the FREE download - then run the block - if it is succesful - it is better to shut down completely and see if it has happened for you.

Jennyjoan - I can't access the site. Is it co.uk or .com? Thanks for your help
Adblock Plus (and similar software) only blocks ads that are embedded within the actual pages that you're seeking to view. (e.g. the ads down the right-hand-side of this page if you're viewing the 'non-mobile' version of this site).

If you're suddenly getting loads of other ads (such as pop-ups), that aren't actually part of the pages you're looking at, then you've got malware on your tablet (which programs such as Adblock Plus won't get rid of).

You need to download, install and run this:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/mobile/
(Important: That's a free program, from a reliable source but if - during the installation process - there's an option to take a free trial of a paid-for product, make sure that you deselect it)
sorry i gave you wrong site - maybe this will work for you - take your time studying it

https://adblockplus.org/
there you are buenchico will put you on the right track.
As I've indicated above, I think that it's Malwarebytes (to get rid of pop-ups, etc) rather than Adblock Plus (to get rid of embedded ads) that you actually need.

However if you want the correct link for Adblock Plus it's this one:
https://adblockplus.org/

Thank you both - Buenchico it says that safari cannot open the file.
For which program?

Malwarebytes is on the Google Play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
(So you don't need Safari. You use the Google Play app on your tablet)

Thank you. I'm not getting on very well here, so will leave it for now. Thank you very much for your help.
If you have an Apple tablet (iPad) then you won't have Google Play for applications, wrong operating system,
You would be better off using Safari as you web browser on iPad. It has an ad blocker built in (Settings/Safari/General/Block pop ups)
Hellywelly - it is very very difficult to understand techie stuff but if you stick with Byenchico right down the line he will help you to no end and with great patience.
sorry milvus for interrupting but I think one person at one time is better giving you the information - for those not technie - different advice from different advisors confuse you.
Yes Jennyjoan but you cannot get Googleplay applications on Apple tablets. Its the wrong operating system. Buenchico's suggestion won't work on an Apple tablet

Thank you all. I've had to leave it and will try again tomorrow when my brain isn't so tired! I used to have safari on my tablet but can't find it now, so I don't know what has happened. Knowing me I could have deleted it without realising!

I have said my bit
Hi Milvus - Buechicico's maybe first cuppla ideas may work in various way or forms but always manages to come up trumps ( for me anyway). Stick with Buenchicho - if he doesn't know he will you but he will his try hardest to come up with something.

I've done what Milvus has suggested. Not sure whether it has worked yet. Unfortunately I have a short cut to Safari on the desktop, but when I press that, up comes Answerbank! That was happening last night as well. How can I get rid of that shortcut and replace it with the proper Safari one?
Is that your iPad desktop, hellywelly?

Safari is the Apple browser and it is my guess that your shortcut DOES open Safari, with AnswerBank on the opening page.
