My wife bought a 2nd hand ipad2. The seller had wiped it clean, so as we could start afresh. The seller said the best way to go forward was to get on to iTunes.
Eventually we realised it had to be downloaded onto our computer, which we did. We've got as far as successfully updating the ipad. Next we are prompted to choose a Wi-Fi network. The one highlighted is our modem, DSL-2640R.
When we click on this, up comes " Enter Password". This is where the problem is, i.e., what password ? There is no " Forget password "option, so we are at a dead end. Please help !

the password for your modem. The ipad can't join your wifi network without the network password.
The router password might have UPPER or lower case letters in it.
Password will be somewhere on the Modem.

Thanks for your replies, but our modem password is only 5 characters, the ipad wants 8 or more before the "join" button lights.
Two options -

try Settings, select the network name, click on the blue arrow to Forget This Network and try signing in again.

And / or

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.
Hope your router password isn't 'admin'. :-)

Sorry to come over as a bit thick, but where is settings ? Likewise, where are the home and sleep/wake buttons? I assume you mean on the ipad, not the computer or modem.
Settings is the grey app. And the Home button is on the button bottom of the screen. On/Off is the top button
You might have two passwords for your modem, mine has got a standard one and an admin one.

So there is no confusion, the ipad is 32GB, Model A1395. I cannot see a grey app, and there is only one button I can see, at the centre bottom.
At the top of the iPad is the On/Off button.

Actually, that is the old setting icon. The new one is similar though.

The password for your router/modem is usually written on a panel on the back of the unit, unless you have set a new one.

Also, for all the time I've been on it, the modem says " not charging "
Robbbo,

If you hold the iPad with the home button below the screen, the off button is at the top right, on the side edge of the iPad. Obviously, if the iPad is in a cover/case, remove it to see the off button.
You mean the ipad says not charging.

That means you have the ipad connected to the computer, and the computer doesn't have enough oomph to charge it via its usb - but it is actually getting a trickle charge from the computer.

Normally you'll charge the ipad via the mains adapter.
// Also, for all the time I've been on it, the modem says " not charging " //

The modem is usually part of your router and plugs into the mains ele tricity. It does not run off a battery. Do you mean something else?
If you do not have a Apple charger, you should plug the iPad into your computer by a usb plug on the computer, not via a keyboard usb slot.
