My laptop used to play all CDs. Now it won't play data CDs, though audio CDs and DVDs are fine (Running Windows 7). The ones that won't play for me do play on another laptop running Windows 8.1. Any ideas as to why and what I can do about it?

Perhaps the data disks are borderline readable and a deteriorating drive has stopped being able to cope ?
When you say wont "play" what do you mean? What are you expecting it to "play"

Data CDs are just that, CDs full of computer data files.

Those data files COULD be mp3 music files, but unless you tell the computer what to do with them it will just sit there.

There is an "autoplay" setting in Windows which tells Windows what to do when a CD is put in the computer, maybe have a look at that setting.

Details here (or look in the Windows help)

Have you got the right program on your pc to read the data?
