My son needs to edit videos held on his drive made at school as part of an exam project and burn it onto a DVD. The software needed is for basic editing. Is there any recommended free softwarethat can easily be understood and used by him? Is the installed Windows Live Movie Maker any good?

Windows Live Movie Maker is one of the few decent programs to come out of Microsoft; it should be fine for school project use.

Thank you as always Buenchico. If it gets a thumbs up from you I know he can't go far wrong.
Hiya Patrick. I'd strongly suggest you try these two - both free, one being an editing program and the other a burner.
The editing one is XMedia Recode. Takes a little bit of getting used to but it really is superb.
The burning one is ImgBurn.
