Is there any DVD playing device that you can connect to an iPad, to watch DVDs on your iPad screen?

It can't be done at anything like a reasonable price. The way to do it is to take video out from your DVD, convert it to a wifi signal and connect to that wifi from your iPad. Something like this would do it ... http://www.teradek.com/pages/cube

http://www.lifehacker.co.uk/2014/02/21/rip-dvd-computer I was interested in doing this with my Android. I gave up though. I think you have to pay for Handbrake.

I was sort of wanting to do it without copying the DVD to the iPad.

Just stick the DVD in an external player, plug the player into the iPad, and watch the DVD.
That needs a USB port 237SJ - which iPads don't have.
you can connect regular usb via the camera connect adapter.
Still won't work RM - not enough power to run the drive.
Oh right, SD. Looking again, it doesn`t mention iPad, sorry.

Not looking good, is it.
Unless there's some way of "Bluetoothing" the DVD while it runs on your laptop?

Crikey, ..., that looks fab.

Slightly "whoosh!" over my head, but got me thinking.

I'm not quite sure how those Cubes work, or what they do, but I want one really badly.
Despite what Ellipsis says, it can be done at little cost. One possibility that's worked for me on Android devices, so should be the same on Ipads - there's an app called MX Player (among others) which will play video files from your network. In theory you can share the DVD drive from your computer or laptop over the network and MX player should be able to recognise it and play the disc.

£2.99 I bought one of these for putting pictures straight on to my ipad2. It works brill for that but It looks like it has more uses though.

That little connector looks too easy to be true, Sycamore.

I'm going to try one, obviously.

But I know how Apple go to some lengths to make their devices inaccessible, and incompatible (even with each other).
That sounds a bit pointless to me, Aquariel. You need your pc on to play the dvd so you can watch the movie on your iPad - and you need to be on the same network.
I don't know if it's possible to connect a portable dvd drive to the iPad using an OTG cable, the way you can with a Nexus 7 tablet.
