Wish my memory was better. Friend of mine who's now away for the weekend said that when he went to France with his Windows phone it didn't just switch to the local provider in the way other smartphones tend to; there was something he had to do but I can't remember what it was!
My previous Android phone (on PAYG) automatically picked up Vodafone Italia when I flew there.
Anyone know what I have to do on a Windows phone so I can use it in France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy etc etc etc (!!!)? BTW it's a Nokia Lumia 625.

Have a Windows Nokia Lumina phone and never had to do anything to get the local provider, just returned from Canada/USA and Madeira and on all occasions provider was automatically found. Have also had a look at settings and cant find anything there that needs the settings changed for this.

Switch off 'roaming'?

No, I think there's more to it Zacs. I've been used to switching that off, and he said pretty much the same.
No, it seems there's something 'other' you have to do to still be able to use the phone.

I took mine to Tenerife and it worked fine.

Hmm, I'll go with that. Actually it's just reminded me that I took the phone to Canada at Christmas and didn't have to do anything (slight memory fade - I was thinking I'd taken the older phone).
I have the same phone and I had to phone my provider (talkmobile 5888) and tell them I was going abroad, they then altered my settings and told me to turn off my answer machine (ph 1210) and make sure my roaming was also turned off and when I was abroad everything was great. ( I did download a app called viber which gave unlimited free calls and text's provided both parties where connected to the internet.)
