Hi all,

I've downloaded some videos from youtube that I'd like to watch on my PC when I'm not on the 'net. They appear to be in MPEG-4 format (whatever that is !)

I've got the usual windows media, quicktime, Power DVD and real player and none of the files will play on tham. I downloaded something called format factory and I don't know how to use it.

Can anyone suggest some free software I can download to either player the files or convert them to a format I can play on the software I already have?

Thanks in advance.

Freeware program VLC Media player should play the file.
Odd that none of those will play MP4 - it's a standard format.

You can try VLC player, or if you use FireFox, re-download them using DownloadHelper as this will download them into a playable format.

You can use a program called Free You Tube Downloader which downloads and converts it what ever format you wish from the list it shows you.
Actually you don’t need to download videos with a software, and then convert them using another one. I mean just one downloader can complete these two tasks. Since you want a free version, I recommended you an online app http://www.videoripper.me/. It also works on Mac.
