From Barclays Bank saying the transaction for £8085 has been successfully transferred. if the transaction was made by mistake please contact our customer service. payment receipt is in the attachment.
I didn't open the attachment. instead I phoned Barclays. They said it was a phishing email and they had had lots of calls today regarding this. they asked me to forward it their security department so I did.
So be warned everyone be careful.

i've had the same sort of thing but not barclays. it was a bank i haven't got an account in.

LadyJ I do bank with Barclays though. But they did say no bank would email you. They always write to you.
that gives you a bit of a dilemma then. but you have to think, have i ever given my bank my email address? they don't ask for it so the answer is no. as you say they write to you.

Chances are, the email didn't mention you by name either. Always a giveaway.
I never trust anyone who claims to be my bank either on the phone or by email. I always contact the bank to check.

this is the reason I dont internet bank
I had four of those emails yesterday, all for different amounts.

All these scum bags need is for one or two people to be sucked in and they will clean you out.

You will read in bank websites that they will NEVER send you such emails, either forward them to the bank using their phishing email address that banks list in their websites, or just delete them.

I use Santander and they will send me an email telling me there is a secure message for me in my online account. That's the only way we communicate online.
Thanks for the alert, caran - I suspect you are on the list for many more, I get them every couple of days allegedly from a variety of banks. I wouldn't even bother ringing the bank if you weren't expecting a transaction - I'd just bin it.

It's sad that enough people must respond to these scams for it to make it worthwhile doing it - bit like that "Microsoft" repair-your-computer-over-the-phone scam that was discussed on here a few weeks back.
I am with Barclays and do on line banking , but I have not given them e-mail details so I know right away it's a scam ..delete without even looking !
