Restoring a mac to factory settings?

I want to give my old emac (OS 10.2) to my mum. Obviously I want to get my personal stuff off of it and it's also slow 'cause of all the stuff on it. Can someone tell me how to restore it to factory settings without making a mess of it? I'm a bit worried that restoring it to factory settings will wipe off the upgrades I've put on there, so is there another way of doing it?

the easiest thing to do is restore to factory settings (presumably reload from your OS disc), and then install any updates for the OS again.
