Can't seem to shut down Facebook account

What a nightmare Facebook is. I wanted to open a business account on Facebook and inadvertently managed to start up a standard account by mistake. I tried to shut down the standard account but Facebook won't let me. So I then started to try and open a business account, now both accounts seem linked by Facebook. I can't seem to close the standard one down and Facebook is reverting to the standard one with my business account listed as a page on the standard account. I've just done it this morning and am now wondering a) if I'll be able to shut the account down in 24 hours and b) whether it will shut the business page down in such a way that I won't be able to go back in and start a business account as I wanted to in the first place. What a pain it is. Can anyone help. Sorry for the rather muddled rant, but I'm tearing my hair out here.

I think it takes a fortnight to permanently delete your account (but in the meantime it will be deactivated). You could maybe contact them and tell them its urgent and for your business, and also the fact that you aren't leaving Facebook and will be using it (ie: You don't need a fortnight "change your mind?" period). I doublechecked by googling "fortnight" + "delete facebook" and found this:

To permanently delete your Facebook account you will be required to send a message to Facebook, requesting the permanent deletion of your account. You will first have to navigate through several help pages before submitting your deletion request. Upon submission of this request, your account will be deleted immediately but it will take a fortnight to clear your information from Facebook's cache.

@ZebUK There definitely used to be very long way of getting it deleted, which wasn't the usual delete button route - it basically involved you contacting them in person. Maybe they don't do that anymore though.

I think I may have found something buried in the depths of a page. I filled in the info on a deleting your account section - but they now appear to have deleted the business section but not the person one. I give up. Why are all of these types of sites so difficult to work with!
