Box with the coloured dots, please help

had to reinstall windows. (xp professional)
Favourites have been lost, obviously and am trying to get them back. However,the afore-mentioned box comes up in some web sites, also on here I cannot see the furuther details to a question thread.
What am I missing please ?

Sorry I don't recognise your description of the dotty box. Just to say I am biting my tongue re that last question. Such a feed line.

Could I suggest the install has not gone according to plan and it may be worth doing again ? Anway, hope you are able to see the further answers to your question thread.

Thanks for replying OG. I can see the replies which is nice, but not helpful for puzzzles etc !!

A dotty box describes me better than it does the problem. Will try-reinstalling again. Thank you for your time.

Have you run Windows Update after re-installing it? You are probably using Internet Explorer 6 if you have not run Windows Update.

Thanks Stoofur, was horrified that IE had re-appeared. Blooming dinosaur :-)

However, am back on firefox now and no more complaints, well, until the next time.
