update windows

have got the following message come up when I log on,

"since windows was first activated on this computer the hardware on the computer has changed significantly. Due to these changes windows must be reactived within 2 days".

When I say ok I have to follow various instructions, is it ok or is it some sort of scam.

Have you, maybe, upgraded the machines graphics card or CPU? That's typically what causes this message, and it's not a scam.
