Removing music files from iPhone

When connected to iTunes my iPhone display shows music in list form rather than complete album display. When needing to remove a complete album back to iTunes it's quite a hassle to highlight each tune in turn rather than being able to remove the whole album in one shot. The on screen display shows the required icons but when clicking on them nothing changes from the list form.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and have any ideas ?
