Fiefox high memory usage.

I sometimes receive a 'high memory usage for FireFox' window popping up.

Since it does not seem to have any adverse effects, what does this mean and what can be done to prevent it?

FF does 'grow' the longer it is left open and hogs resources which will ultimately slow your browsing down and put the pc under strain.

Simply close it and restart it. Some websites are worse than others. AB is a main offender.

Firefox's high memory use is one of the reasons I've switched to chrome, especially if you keep firefox open for a long time with lots of tabs open, then the memory use just keeps climbing and climbing.

this article describes the most common "fixes" for the problem, but most of them are just minimising the problem, not getting rid of it totally.

Like I said, it's a bad enough problem that I switched browsers at home because of it.

Chuck, does Chrome have similar add-ons to FireFox, ie spell checker, case-changer etc?

Well it has ad-block and a spell checker, just checked and there is a case changer available (why would you need on of those!).

Generally most of the main add-ons will be available in chrome too.

I've been using Waterfox lately and it is much less greedy and quicker on my 64 bit Windows 7.

It is certainly worth trying - your tabs, bookmarks, Add ons complete Firefox profile is automatically imported to it, so it's not stressful at all.

FF will still be there on your pc, unchanged.

Thank you for that I might just give that a try, I already have Internet Explorer on my computer so adding yet another browser shouldn't do any harm.

Thanks for going to all that trouble for me Chuck.

Re-Case Changer, It's sad but I find it fascinating for one thing, but really it is most useful if I inadvertently press the 'Caps Lock' while typing, I can then quickly revert the words back to lower case using the Case-Changer.
