Problem with email attachment

I've been sent an excel spreadsheet by email. I click on download and when I try and open it, I get the message saying "Windows cannot complete the extraction. The destination file could not be created".

How can I view this file, please? Am running Windows 7.

Are you sure it's an Excel file and not a zip file with an excel file in it?

If it is save it to your desktop and then try again.

a couple of times recently I have been sent from people I know emails with attachments. Sometimes they open up ok but sometimes I get this message "this file does not have a program associated with it...

I found an email from royalmail with an attachment and have been used to banks, ups etc.. and know the scams which are usually from foreign scammers judging by the wording and phrases but was curious...
