If a laptop is left on but still attached to the mains.....does it continue to charge the battery?

It'll charge the battery until it's full, then it'll just hang around, waiting for you to need more power :-)

Sqad, I am under the impression that should you leave the laptop plugged in continually, you will overcharge ( cook , knacker, bugger up , spoil ...insert own expletive ) the battery. Be careful !
mine complains if you leave it on charge too long!
Let the laptop battery run down completely at least once a week.
But keep your personal battery charged x
