problem reading memory card

Hi

my camera is broken and so I bought a memory card reader to get all my photos off my xd cards before i get rid of them. one of them when I put it in the reader doesn't automatically go to the open files/view pictures option it comes up saying that the disk in drive k needs to be formatted. i don't want to click yes as i may lose what is on the card does anyone know why this is happening and how to get the pictures?

thanks

Just close the pop-up box that says the card needs to be formatted - happens a lot with xd cards.

Then if you go into 'My Computer' you should be able to see the card and copy the files ...
