Problems with winRAR.zip

This seems to be a popular method of sending me attachments recently. So i downloaded winRAR.zip. But for some unknown reason i cant open my attachments. Help

maybe the attachments are corrupt, ask for them to be sent again or try another compression program like http://www.7-zip.org/download.html or
http://www.peazip.org/ all are free
