facebook "friends on chat" question

Sorry to bother you, hope someone can help with this question. When i am on facebook faces appear under the "friends on chat" section even when no one is on chat. Is there any way to resolve this ?

From memory, if you go to the dop down menu where you log out, I think there is an option regarding changing the chat stuff, not sure if it's what you need but have a look see.

that's showing your friends, when they are on chat, a small green dot or a green square will be at corner of their photo

Just press the little arrow that says hide side bar.

Why does the list of friends change though? is it just because there is not enough room to show all so Facebook chooses a selection at random?
