Not to sound really daft but i want to move the sky box to another part of the room and the cable from the statellite only goes so far. I've read online that i need a cable extension but it says for sky hd you need a cable with to ends such as this one: Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

but i just want to make 100% sure before i buy!!
thanks in advance x

Yep, the link worked. That's the one you need.

Al is wrong... regardless of how many "years he's been doing this".

okay i've just realised half of this post didn't send as i had two links in it!

but it still makes sense just ignore the link :)
Hi,
Not daft at all. I did the same, and yes you do need a cable with two ends.

:-)

oh and just to add, the sky box i have only has the cable going into one socket at the back, rather than two and its an hd box. common sense says I should just go for the cable with one end
(i tried to delete this thread and start again as ive made a bit of a mess of it but i cant!!)
Oh, hang on... is it sky plus? That's the one that needs two cables, not a standard Sky HD box.
Question Author
no its just hd on it's own! just go for the one ended cable? thats what confused me as its not both.
thanks!
Sorry, I got confused. Not your fault, totally mine :))

Yes, it's definitely the one with just the one cable. It's pretty easy to do, once you get it.
I think the engineers should allow for more cable really, as it's not uncommon to want to change things around.
That's correct ... expensive really .. as it's just aerial cable with some joiners and standard F-plug ends.
If you have Sky+ or Sky HD .. you will need two (as there are 2 cables to connect from dish to either input on Sky Box)
Buy here .. Black cable ... IF Sky+ or HD ...

Whoa there Kaffryn! Forget everything I've just said :)

Al, are you sure you need two cables for Sky HD? I thought the two cables were for the recording feature on the Sky plus box?
My sons got a standard HD box in his room, and there's just the one cable??
FTS ... Pretty well confused job there.

Sky HD needs two LNB cables connected.
Sky+ also needs two LNB cables connected.
Your son CANNOT watch one channel and record at same time then, like the rest of us. He has probably switched it to 'single-feed' mode in back menu.

(I've been doing this stuff for years and have a pile of upgraded HD boxes here)
Question Author
great thank you both loads!! yeah it seems silly they don't leave a bit of extra cable
All recording boxes are HD boxes now.
No, he hasn't got Sky plus in his room, so he can't record anyway. He's got a standard SKY HD box (as Kaffryn) has, and just the one cable.

Blimey! That told me, didn't it! :P
I have reels of the stuff Kaff : )
The cost of the kit is actually in the joiner part .. not the rest. Cable is 20 pence-worth and the ends cost me 10p each!
Al.

hold on!! lol there is currently just one cable from the satellite connected to the back of my box, it is skyHD on it's own, box itself is only a few months old.
ive decided 10m might be the best as i like to swap and change furniture, is this one okay?

Question Author
sorry youve answered my question, i was abit late on reading all you both had said! i would need one longer than 5m :)
See!!

You have one cable now, for your Sky HD box, so you only need one cable to extend it.

Al, you have got me so confused here. So much so, that I've just ran upstairs (literally) to check the cable on my sons box... which is a single cable.
Question Author
as did i! lol
is that link for one i posted okay? im abit useless when it comes to all this
Yep, the link worked. That's the one you need.

Al is wrong... regardless of how many "years he's been doing this".
You can record on an HD box if you have it switched to single feed mode.
1st generation made by Thomson.
All have 2x Dish inputs.
All have HDD for recording and EPG storage.

Here is a FIRST generation Thomson box on WIKI .. pic of rear panel ..
