Thanks to both of you. It would appear that I have a problem with paint.Net as I have tried both of those but it does not work. So I shall have to try to repair the program or remove and re-install.

I don't use Paint.Net ('cos I've got a full professional version of Photoshop) so this is a bit of a long shot, but I wonder whether your version of Paint.Net uses the same convention as Photoshop does? If so, cropping is achieved through right-clicking (after selecting the relevant area, of course) and selecting the 'Crop' option.
If you want a freebie which is as good as Photoshop (but with an equally steep learning curve) try Gimp: http://www.gimp.org/ For a simpler (but still high quality) image-processing freebie, try Serif PhotoPlus SE: http://www.serif.com/...ware/?MC=FSSPHOTOPLUS Chris |

Thanks Cris - I have just installed the latest version of paint.Net and have not got any further so I think that I shall probably uninstall it and go for Serif PhotoPlus as don't want a complicated editing program but one that will just do the basics.

I've got the latest version of paint.net - v3.5.10 - and cropping works fine for me.

Have you tried Photoshop Elements?. It is like a watered down version of Photoshop for the lay person. Although Photoshop is the nuts, but I am biased
