how to measure for pc monitor

When measuring for a new pc monitor , I presume it is the same as tv corner to corner diagonally. Am I right ?

Yep.

Although that will only give you the screen size, if you're measuring it to fit in a gap then you'll need to take the bezel into account too. (and remember that monitors tend to be 16:10 aspect ratio)
